We are delighted to announce our partnership and association with our chosen charity Calum's Cabin. When we decided as partners that we would like to help a charity there was no doubt this was our first choice.
All the partners and staff member of AWMS have young children ranging from the ages 1 to 20 years old and therefore a children's charity was important to us all.
One of our partners Brian Collins has helped look after the finances of Calum's aunt for many years and he remembers well the heartbreak that the family went through and the wonderful stories of such a lovely boy which he relayed to us all. We all feel that we know Calum and his wonderful family and aim to help as much as we can by raising money via various events.
Calum Speirs (12) lost his fight for life little more than a year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Brave Calum, a first year pupil at Rothesay Academy died on Friday 16th February 2007.
Calum was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour only a few days after the first symptoms were noticed- Calum was an inspiration to all who knew and met him. Calum always laughed and smiled, and his priority was always to think of others.
During his lengthy stays in hospital Calum heard many a sad story and with his family decided to help children and families in similar circumstances see what a beautiful Island he was born on. The family started raising money and in a short period of time they had raised enough money to build a purpose built house for families of terminally ill children to have a well needed rest with their beloved child. The families arrive for one week at a time throughout the year and come from all over the UK and as the word spreads they just keep coming.
Calums incredible parents Caroline and Duncan and his much loved sister Jenna didn't stop there, they continued to raise money to buy another property on the Island of Rothesay as demand was so high. They now have so many plans to expand Calums legacy, the fund raising goes on and we are delighted to help and support them.
